muri-MY-way

We have some great people here helping us out… Kelly Burch and his wife Ruth created a list for Josh and I of locals-must-do activities. It’s not the typical “go to the Sky Tower,” “Go to the zoo,” etc, etc. The list was broken down into “Day activities” “2-3 day trips” “Date nights” and so on – it’s so freaking helpful it’s ridiculous. One of the date nights was to grab Dante’s pizza in Huiah and then drive down to Muriwai Beach to watch the sunset. On Thursday night Josh and I ticked that off the list.

Dante’s pizza is a woodfired, authentic Italian pizzeria. Josh didn’t believe all the hype (i.e. that their ovens are over 800 degrees so their pizzas cook in under 90 seconds…), but after he bit into that rosemary garlic bread, his doubts became nothing but a memory. We drove down to Muriwai from there, pizza in hand. We passed through farm after farm, pasture full of sheep after sheep – not really looking like beach material, but then all of a sudden dropped into the tropic brush that New Zealand is known for and then found it – sunset at the beach… Gorgeous! We’ll definitely be back – maybe when it’s not so freaking cold… brr!
