bird house

So we knew we would be staying at the Omaha house from Monday to Thursday… but we didn’t know where we would be on Saturday or Sunday nights. We brought camping stuff and figured that would be the plan. Then it rained. So we called up one of the girls we worked with at the camp because she had offered to let us use her parents’ bach. Saturday afternoon, after the farmers market (which deserves its own post – so freaking cute) we came back to the bach and - typical NZ house, was freezing - so Josh being the outdoorsman that he is decided that he was going to make a fire.

Things started off pretty normal - he got newspaper and small pieces of wood ready, lit the fire starter, and then was sitting down in front of the fireplace tenderly and lovingly coaxing the fire to come to life and give us its glorious warmth. Then, all of a sudden from the inner bowels of the fireplace (or hell…your choice) a bat winged demon flew out and started throwing itself around the room screaming the devil’s song… ok actually it was a bluejay sized bird trying to get out of the bach while screeching and thowing itself into glass door after glass door… obviously not my favorite moment (bird phobia!).

We (and by we I mean Josh… I was cowering in the kitchen) eventually shooed it out and it was happy to leave… thank goodness. What a fire…

ooh- that's awful! just imagine a fiery bird in your hair...that would be worse than just your everyday, not-on-fire bird in your hair!
